From the Antique Trade to Founding American Moving

Gabriel's career started with other people's belongings. He grew up helping his grandfather move family — his grandfather's three daughters, his mother among them — with his cousin, then spent years in the antique trade, buying at auction through the night and selling at the flea market and the family store through the day. That work taught him what irreplaceable objects are worth and how to handle them so they arrive in one piece.

Before founding American Moving, he spent roughly 10 years in natural food production, wholesaling, retail, delivery, and farming, another decade of moving goods carefully and taking responsibility for what belongs to someone else. He started American Moving in Boulder in 1997, incorporated in 1999, secured americanmoving.com in 2003, and renamed the company American Moving and Storage in 2005. In 2026 he returned to Pearl Street in Boulder, where the company got its start.

A Family of Self-Starters

The instinct to build something runs in the family. Gabriel's mother's family includes men who served in every American war going back to the American Revolution. His father's family came from Russia during the Bolshevik Revolution, left everything behind, and built their lives in a new country from nothing. Both sides were entrepreneurs.

That heritage shapes how he sees the work. A move, to him, is someone taking control of their own future and deciding their next chapter, and helping a family do that is not a small thing.

Gabriel holds PUC license HHG-00019 and USDOT 1253812 as a licensed carrier. Gabriel is a Certified Moving Consultant, and the company has three Certified Moving Consultants on staff. and has held the Certified ProMover credential for approximately 12 years, a program that began with the American Moving and Storage Association and now continues under the American Trucking Association. He became a Bekins van line agent in 2013 and earned Bekins senior certification in 2018.

American Moving has been BBB A+ accredited since 2004.

His most uncommon qualification isn't on a certificate. Years in the antique trade taught him to value and handle irreplaceable objects, from original, signed Picassos to 50-piece fine art collections and Lladró porcelain to grand pianos moved up narrow stairwells, the kind of work most movers decline.
